The Indians must be thinking what they are doing wrong. They always bow out a tournament after depending on Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka seems to fail them (which is a good thing). This time it happened in the Asia Cup last night and for once most Sri Lankans are happy that we loss to Bangladesh , we might have gone down and bowed out of the tournament without a single win; yet, we took down India with us.
Sri Lanka looked like a tired team from the beginning of the tournament and though I myself like many predicted that we will go all the way, the first game against the Indians showed that we are team who badly needed rest than another tournament which lasts just one week. The team deserved a break after that grueling successful down under, and with the England tour on the horizon as well. But, they didn't get that.
Even against Bangladesh last night, the same thing happened and since that match was not going to take our guys to the finals anyway, our guys didn't play to the best of their ability. The tiredness was evident; they all looked lost and jaded.
Yet, a good thing happened amidst this entire turn of events. We deprived India of another final by losing last night. After the turn of events in the past few days inside and outside of cricket, it is good that we sent India home just like us. India should have won that game against Bangladesh , yet some poor captaincy by Dhoni and crazy bowling by Irfan Pathan led Bangladesh to an unlikely victory ( credit should be given to the Bangladesh batsmen too , there batting clicked in both matches and it was simply superb to watch).
So India goes home after another unsuccessful tournament; serves them right. Let us hope they won't depend on us or any other team next time to get into the final of a multinational tournament. They made the mistake twice and both times got bitten by their closest neighbors Sri Lanka. After the results they got, they will truly try their best next time, to come to the final by their own and certainly not depend on the Sri Lankan Lions which has made many Sri Lankan fans so damn happy.
Take That India..
Cheers!!
