The ongoing test series between the Sri Lankans and the Englishmen has seen a lot of batting failures from both teams. Though the English are the ones who are facing the biggest problems in batting , the Sri Lankans are also having problems with their top order failing in both test matches so far. The latest was today when we lost 3 wickets for around 21 runs. The most concerning one of all is the failure of Sanga who went for a 1st bowl duck for the second time in this series.
Sanga was our most consistent batsmen before this series. He was even number one in the ICC test batting rankings and after his last 3 completed innings ( includes the one today) he has fallen to number four . Though rankings doesn't reveal much of the quality of the player; what can be seen is that Sanga is not the player he was before. May be age is catching up on him or maybe it is just a temporary drop of form which he will surely fix in the future. I sincerely hope the reason is the latter.
However, I believe in Sanga and I am sure all the Sri Lankan Cricket Fans believe in him too. He will get through this and will be back to his best. The man has done it in the past ,he can do it again. The only thing he does need to do is spend more time in the crease. Leave many balls as possible and then start building his innings. If he can remember how he did it from his past success, I am sure he will be the best again.
Sanga will surely be back. I am sure he will show us what he is again , in the second innings of the ongoing final test against the Englishmen.
