Sri Lanka.. The Bridesmaids of International Cricket

First it was England, now it is Sri Lanka. We are the team who played the best cricket right throughout and faltered in the end. We are the bridesmaids who had the chance to sleep with the husband, yet didn't take that chance and just kissed him and said Goodbye.

It is the story isn't it ? it is been there now for quite some time.Since the World Cup in 2007, we had many chances to win international tournaments. However beginning from that World Cup we have faltered in the last game, the final, the most important game of all.  It happened in the last World T20 , the World Cup last year and now this year's CB series. We always end up runners up. Why or Why is this happening to our team?

Don't we have the mentality to win finals anymore? Are we too tired to give one last effort to win the tournament? Or is it just a conspiracy where we are a team who are not allowed to win finals but is just allowed to reach the finals instead. It is heart breaking to watch to all the die- hard cricket lovers of Sri Lanka.

One thing is for sure though, whenever someone from the government is present, our guys tend to lose. The sports minister was present at the grounds during yesterday’s final and it was evident the team was facing some unnecessary pressure when playing the game. Maybe he wanted to give the trophy to the boys if we won. Else, he might have wanted to take all the credit, to show off that the internal problems within Sri Lanka Cricket are resolved and everything is all right. We don't know the real reason, yet everything points out to one thing. The team lost the match even before it started.

However, there is still a shining light at the end of the tunnel. The team is playing unbelievably well and yesterday too they didn't lose until fighting to the very end.  The team has discovered new young talents in Chandimal , Thirimanne and Senanayaka and it is high time people like Kapugedera sent home since those kind our players are worth nothing to the team.

The team will be flying to Bangladesh to play in the Asia Cup and I am sure they will do well and beat the rest with all their might. One thing should change though, if we come to the final, we should win it.

After all, people will always remember the Bride not the Bridesmaids

Cheers!!
