The second final of the CB series was concluded in today in Adelaide where the Lankan Lions roared and thrashed the Australians by 8 wickets. It was the perfect reply to the fightback we gave in Hobart and I am pretty sure that we will win the 3rd final too in Adelaide and take this series. We deserve it, we have been the best and the most consistent team in the whole tournament. But, we could not have come this far if we didn't have a captain like Mahela Jayawardene. He is a modern day “Captain Cool ", the " Leader with a Lion Heart ".
I have always been an admirer of Mahela's leadership ever since he started captaining Sri Lanka after the departure of Marvan Atapattu. His calmness and strength of being a smooth tactician always worked well for the team and almost won us a World Cup in 2007. He came back to the helm for a second stint at the start of this series and so far, it has been marvelous to watch. The team is performing so damn well under his leadership.
As we saw today, he is not short of a word too and he was 100 percent correct to argue with the umpires regarding the late no ball incident where to a certain extent, Michael Clarke pressured the umpires to give that delivery as a no ball. As many of my facebook friends said, he reminded all of us the incident regarding Murali on the same ground a few years back , where Sri Lanka's world cup winning Captain Arjuna Ranatunga did something similar to save his bowler from being called a chucker.
He doesn't fear anyone and his response to Mark Nicholas during the presentation regarding his fine was simply epic. “If I get the match fee , then they can fine me 10 percent ". His guts must have won the hearts and admiration of many and he surely did win of all Sri Lankans.
We are so damn lucky to have someone like Mahela in our team and I hope he continues his captaincy stint until someone like Angelo Mathews or Dinesh Chandimal is groomed to take over the captaincy at the right time.
This is why I will be the first person who will vote for Mahela if he ever contest for the Presidency. He is a great, awesome leader and a super, down to earth human being. As the below pic shows, he would never let down his fans and would stick for a photo with them no matter what.
Me and a Friend with Mahela who posed for a picture with us while rushing to do some shopping with his wife at Cinnamon Grand
I Wish Mahela and the whole Sri Lankan Lions All the Very Best for the 3rd final on Thursday and I am sure with Mahela's shrewd captaincy and the performance of this very very special Sri Lankan Cricket Team, we can do it and beat the Aussies for one final time.
Bring it Home Boys..
Cheers !!
